The DAMA technopole spans on an area of 140,000 square meters, designed and built in the 1950s by Pier Luigi Nervi for the former Manifattura Tabacchi (tobacco factory), located in the northern area of Bologna.

It represents one of the city of Bologna's most significant urban regeneration projects. The redevelopment and reactivation plan for the site originated from an international architecture competition, won in 2012 by the gmp Architekten studio (von Gerkan, Marg, and Partner).
