International research area
At the corner of via Stalingrado and via della Manifattura, a new 14,000-square-metre courtyard complex will host international research activities, offering approximately 250 workstations in a creative and stimulating environment, also featuring green areas. Designed to meet high standards of construction quality and indoor environmental sustainability, the building will be certified under the international LEED sustainable building protocol.
The facility will house international research activities including, the United Nations University Institute (UNU-AI), which focuses on developing research on big data and artificial intelligence applied to the challenges of the Global South, and the activities of MIT Senseable City Lab, which bridges urban and digital environments to propose local and concrete solutions to key urban issues of the future: decarbonisation, sustainable mobility, air quality improvement, and climate change mitigation.
Additional occupants will include the Agenzia Italia Meteo (Italy's National Meteorological Agency), research spaces for CINECA, INFN, and ICSC, as well as facilities for CMCC (Euro-Mediterranean Centre on Climate Change) and the IFAB Foundation (International Foundation Big Data and Artificial Intelligence for Human Development).
