Introduction

The founding agreement was signed by the Minister of University and Research, Anna Maria Bernini, and the Rector of UNU, Tshilidzi Marwala, in the presence of the President of the Emilia-Romagna Region, Michele de Pascale

The arrival of UNU-AI in Italy is the result of close collaboration between the Ministry of University and Research and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI), led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Antonio Tajani, who accompanied the entire negotiation process with the United Nations and will finance its creation.

The United Nations University is part of the UN's global network dedicated to the study of sustainable development, environmental resilience, and international cooperation. The Bologna center is the 14th academic center of the UNU network globally and constitutes the first Italian seat and the first in the entire Mediterranean Europe of the United Nations University.

In support of the initiative, the Italian Government has allocated 40 million dollars, through MAECI, for the Institute's endowment fund, ensuring its launch and long-term sustainability. Furthermore, for the first 10 years of operation, the Government and the Region will support the Institute with a contribution of 2.5 million euros per year.
