The Italian Quantum Alliance is established

The Italian Quantum Alliance (AQI) has been established, a national agreement bringing together eight prestigious universities and research centers with industries and public institutions to create a unified ecosystem in the field of quantum technologies. The goal is to promote Italian excellence in this strategic sector and place Italy at the center of the quantum technological revolution.

The initiative moves in perfect harmony with the new Italian Strategy for Quantum Sciences and Technologies, recently announced, and currently involves eight founding partners: University of Bologna, Cineca, National Institute of Metrological Research, University of Padua, National Institute of Astrophysics, National Institute of Nuclear Physics, University of Pavia, and Politecnico di Milano.

The Alliance does not stop with the eight founding members. Other entities have already expressed interest in the initiative, and the Association is collecting new memberships from all relevant institutions, aiming to expand the network and build a common voice in the quantum ecosystem of the future.

Just days after the announcement of the first Italian Strategy for Quantum Sciences and Technologies, AQI positions itself as a central player: an entity open to contributions from all academies, research institutions, and private sector actors who, with their expertise and excellence, want to contribute to the Italian landscape in an integrated manner.

The objectives

The Alliance aims to create strategic synergies for project development, skills training, and the promotion of technology transfer. As highlighted in the official statement, “quantum is a frontier sector undergoing rapid development, promising to give rise to new strategic technologies with potentially revolutionary impacts in the industrial and economic fields, in education, and for social development.”

Innovations such as quantum computers, which will soon arrive at DAMA, secure quantum communications, precision quantum sensors, quantum networks, and applications in the quantum world of artificial intelligence are discussed.

The establishment of the Italian Quantum Alliance represents a fundamental step to consolidate our country’s position in a sector that promises to be crucial for the global technological and competitive future.
